We were disappointed to be given a ‘Requires Improvement’ judgement and felt that the timing of the Inspection, at the start of a new school year, after 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic and our children working in isolated bubbles had a negative impact on how much our children could recollect about their previous school experiences.
However, we accepted the report and noted the areas for improvement, which fortunately we had already identified on our post-pandemic School Development Plan.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced and covers all the elements we are legally bound to teach. Staff are working hard at refining and improving the opportunities for children to 'know more and remember more' (Ofsted review of the curriculum in schools, 2019). We are proud of our work around developing communication and language, instilling curiosity and creativity in our children and building their self-esteem and resilience. Our parents, who see the work of our school on a day-to-day basis tell us they value the love and nurture staff provide, that their children feel safe and happy here and our 'open door' policy of always being available to parents for a chat or just a listening ear in times of crisis is very much appreciated.
We firmly believe our children should not have a ceiling put on their hopes and dreams simply because of where they come from. Their capacity to grow into well rounded, resilient, respectful 21st century citizens is infinite and we know the three years they spend in our care are the crucial first steps in becoming life-long learners.
We look forward to Ofsted recognising all these positive elements of our school during their next visit.
